Intimate Elegance: Capturing Love in Harrison Hot Springs

Wedding Photography west coast mountains

Photographing our first wedding couldn’t have happened under better circumstances. First, we were lucky that the bride was my beautiful physiotherapist and friend Kim — she and her now-husband Neil were so lovely and were a perfect couple to shoot celebrating their special day. Second, the wedding was held at Camp Cogburn, a gorgeous lakeside campground in Harrison Hot Springs. Talk about a spectacular natural backdrop for a small, DIY outdoor wedding!

My husband Sean and I also quickly learned that we make a pretty good team. While I did Kim’s makeup, Sean took pictures of us at work, documented the details (like Kim’s INCREDIBLE pearl wedding dress!) and then went to capture Neil and his brothers/groomsmen getting ready. By the time Sean and the guys got to the ceremony site, I was ready with my cameras, and the two of us were able to capture Kim and Neil tying the knot — including their first kiss — from every angle.

It was then time to take Kim and Neil to the beach of Harrison Lake for their couple’s portraits. They were such naturals! It doesn’t take a lot to make these two look good, but the breathtaking background definitely didn’t hurt.

While we were having fun at the beach, Sean was capturing family and friends enjoying the cocktail hour. The happy couple and I then returned just in time for dinner and speeches. As the sun set and candles were lit, we couldn’t stop shooting the cozy scene of the wedding party and guests huddled together inside the tent.

One thing we learned was a wedding day can fly by when you’re having a blast with the couple and their guests, always finding moments and scenes to capture for Kim and Neil to look back on for the rest of their lives. We were exhausted by the end but so happy to have completed our first wedding with no issues, and that we also had fun doing it!

We were even more thrilled when Kim and Neil loved their pictures! Getting the right mix of romantic and goofy was one of the key things they asked for when we had our first consultation, which we were more than happy to do.

If I could give ten stars I would! Lindsay did my bridal make up and wedding photos and was a total joy. The make trial was a fun and collaborative experience- she tailors the look to exactly what you want and is a master! As someone who doesn’t wear much make up myself, Lindsay make me feel beautiful and special on the big day without feeling overloaded- the look on the day was perfect! Such a good experience. Professional, prepared, fun, creative and a wonderfully reassuring presence on the day as well as very communicative in the lead up. What a star. The photos are beyond our wildest dreams! Do not hesitate to book!

All in all, I am so happy that I the opportunity to be a part of my friend’s wedding day, and celebrate the love between her and her husband. I am so grateful that I was able to work with my husband on this, and reach this professional milestone with him by my side. Thank you Kim and Neil for trusting me with your wedding photos, and thank you Sean for being the best second shooter I could ask for!
