Connecting with Yourself: Changing Self Perception Through the Power of Boudoir.
Miss S reached out to me last spring for a boudoir photo shoot. She said, “I want to be comfortable being uncomfortable,” and that really stuck with me. Speaking from personal experience, some of the most rewarding things in my life were born out of doing something that scared me. Boudoir photography is the perfect example: it can make you feel so vulnerable exposing yourself and placing your trust in a photographer, but the end result is true art and will make you fall in love with yourself all over again.
We started the session by going through her wardrobe options and chatting about what she would personally like to achieve through this shoot. I always ask my clients, what are you proud of? What would you like to feature? Each boudoir photoshoot is specifically tailored to the individual, so no two photoshoots are the same.
Once I had an idea of how to structure her shoot, I spent some time doing her makeup. She opted to keep her natural curls (love!) for the shoot, and requested a natural, glowy makeup look to bring out her eyes. We didn’t want to use colours that were too bold, as we didn’t want anything to clash with bright lingerie and red roses that she brought as a prop.
Miss S, if you were feeling uncomfortable at all it certainly did not show! I offer posing guidance at every photoshoot (I always demonstrate what the pose looks like before asking the client to mimic it), but she looked like a natural right away. Miss S even had some ideas in the moment that she asked if we could try. I love love love it when a shoot becomes collaborative and someone wants to try new things!
“Lindsay made this experience fun, easeful and so not-daunting. I did a boudoir shoot for me, and me only. I wanted to take this opportunity during the most challenging time of my life, where I wear a million different hats, to pull the layers back and just see me. I wanted to embrace my body and see what the sassy side of me looked like. For someone who rarely wears makeup, the makeup felt natural and tasteful. I had no expectations, but this experience blew me away. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to see themselves in the most raw, vulnerable and beautiful way. Thank you Lindsay!”
Thank you Miss S for spending the day with me and for trusting me with your photos. I am so happy with how they turned out and I hope they are proudly displayed all throughout you home <3
