Golden Hour in the Meadow: A Vintage Film-Themed Photoshoot
This chilly weather has me dreaming of hazy summer evenings. One of my favourite shoots I did last summer was for my friend Leandra at Trout Lake. Leandra has been a muse for me many times, often modelling for my boudoir photography business, Wild Femme Boudoir.
As a Vancouver photographer who specializes in weddings, boudoir and branding, doing a shoot like this really scratches that creative itch.
During the summer time, Trout Lake sections off a field called ‘Pollinator’s Meadow.’ This patch of field doesn’t get mowed which promotes wild growth and a natural ecosystem of insects, tall grass and wildflowers. This quickly became one of my FAVOURITE places to photoshoot in during the summer. The dreamy, long wheat-like grass, perfect placement of the sunset on the horizon and zero foot traffic from looky-loos had me returning all summer long.
I told Leandra that we were going for a boho, vintage vibe, and she understood the assignment. She came in a beautiful terra cotta dress, linen blouse and a big floppy hat. The wardrobe stood out so well from the wildflowers and contrasted beautifully in the grass - truly the perfect outfit for a golden hour photography session.
I had recently come across an interesting photography hack that I wanted to try. A sheer stocking (nylon) is loosely placed over the lens of the camera, and it gives the image a 1970s film-like vibe. I was really happy with how this turned out, especially with the images of Leandra lying down in the flowers.
Thank you so much Leandra for tracking through long grass and dodging goose poop in the name of art! I love love love these portraits and can’t wait to create more in the warmer weather.
