Happy Holidays from Lindsay MacLean Studios/Wild Femme Boudoir & Ruby Roxx!
Happy holidays everyone! It feels like I’ve just finished wrapping up my own version of a Christmas special: I had the opportunity to work with the incredible Ruby Roxx not one, not two, but THREE times this winter, creating some beautiful holiday content.
I met Ruby about 5 years ago while working at another photography studio. She came in to model for an Instagram takeover, and I did her makeup and hair before photographing her and taking behind-the-scenes footage of a day in the life of a boudoir photoshoot. We kept in touch over the years and then reconnected in 2021, when I had the opportunity to do her makeup and hair again for the cover of FabUplus Magazine.
After Ruby had posted a story on Instagram looking for a fellow creative to make some holiday content, I jumped at the chance. The dream team was back together again!
The first photoshoot we had was at my home studio, Wild Femme Boudoir. I have converted my space into an intimate and private makeup, hair and photography studio, decorated with dried florals, neutral tones and what my husband describes as an unhealthy amount of house plants.
For her makeup and hair at the Wild Femme Boudoir shoot I styled a classic Hollywood ‘S’ wave, a subtle smokey eye and the trademark Ruby Roxx red lip. It was the perfect look to accompany her debut of the Jacqueline Full Set by Empress Mimi.
One of our collaborative photography goals was to create some fun holiday baking images to celebrate the season. I can say with confidence that we had a cheekier time making these photos at the Wild Femme studio, but more baking goodness to come!
Next on the list was a photoshoot at the beautiful Christmas Studio Set at Ferguson Event Decor and Planning. This festive photography venue is nestled in South Surrey and offers the perfect backdrop for holiday content. They offer a living room/dining room complete with a fully decorated tree, twinkle lights, wrapped presents, stockings and more.
The Ferguson Set would be the perfect place for an intimate couple’s boudoir shoot or family photos. The cozy setting really makes you want to cuddle up with loved ones.
They also have a kitchen set stocked with everything you need to make your baking photoshoot dreams come true. I enjoyed playing around in this space and creating some (slightly) less spicy baking content.
Last but certainly not least was our unforgettable trip to Martini Town in Aldergrove! This picture perfect town brought all the magic of a Hallmark movie to life for some of my favourite holiday photos this season.
For this photoshoot, I had a specific look in mind. Ruby had finally received her GORGEOUS gowns by ElleRebel (the Birthday Dress and the Ruby Dress) and I knew we had to do something special. You can’t walk the catwalk bedazzled in sequin dresses without a show-stopping makeup and hair look to match it!
I styled a Pamela Anderson-inspired high textured up-do, with dangling tendrils from the nape and top of the bun, to highlight the open necklines of the dresses. For makeup, I really wanted it to read “snow bunny.” Using the ‘W’ blush technique, I gave Ruby rosy cheeks, and applied some extra colour to the tip of her nose for a frosty look. Of course, we had to incorporate a red lip to tie it all together.
After toodling around this magical town for an hour, we treated ourselves to a much deserved hot chocolate and hot apple cider (available on site, along with many other goodies) and headed home for a rest. Thanks Ruby for having so much holiday fun with me this month!
